Thanks for finding your way to this page. The fact that you are even looking into it shows that you are either interested in learning about pancreatic cancer or you love triathlon. I'll take either!

I think I should introduce myself:

My name is Heather and I'm a Physician Assistant (PA) at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. I work in the Gastrointestinal Center and see a lot of patients with pancreatic cancer. PAs work closely with physicians and we aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of patients. I am originally from the Midwest and moved to Houston after completing a rotation in the same department. I enjoyed the challenge of oncology and I love the patients.

Why am I choosing to do a triathlon?
 

I have enjoyed being active since high school and I look for new challenges. This triathlon is a tough one. It includes a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. It is a whole lot at once and the goal is to cross the finish line on my feet! I have done a few triathlons before this and did okay. I have also done a couple half marathons, so I think it is feasible. It definitely won't come without a lot of training and work though.

Why am I raising money for PanCan at the same time?

This is multifactorial.
        1. I don't want to be selfish with my time, but want the training to be for   something bigger.
        2. I am hoping that friends and families of my patients will feel like this is a way that they can support their loved ones in their fight against cancer.
        3. It will keep me motivated.
        4. PanCan is a great organization that teaches people about pancreatic cancer and is active in research.
