Thank You for visiting my Hungry For Life team fundraising page. This team was created in honor of Dennis M. Rich Jr. who lost his battle to cancer in October 2007. Dennis is survived by his wife Jodi, three beautiful daughters, and a wonderful family who are all dedicated to do what they can in order to raise money to help Cancer Research.
Team Hungry For Life was over 100 strong and a huge success in 2008. With the help of many individuals, Team Hungry For Life raised $7,675.00! We are hoping to be bigger and better this year!
This year I will be walking for my grandfather, who I knew as my Poppy, Robert W. "Bob" Welch. He was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in November 1997 and fought through the disease for almost 3 years, before losing his battle on April 16, 2000 at the very young age of 61. He was an Air Force Veteran and retired computer system maintenance engineer who worked at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Test Range and Patrick Air Force Base in Florida before he was diagnosed. Poppy was the only man in my life until his passing, acting not only as a grandfather, but also as a father, and I cherish all of the precious memories from the time I had with him. I will never forget the Sundays growing up, when Poppy took me to the flea market and let me choose one thing to buy - I always chose "digging for treasure", where Poppy and I would buy a bucket of sand that was poured into running water for us to sift through together in order to find burried "treasures" (various rocks and stones, and childrens toys). My grandfather is a true inspiration to me, and I miss him every day.
I'm also walking in loving memory of my Great Uncle, William "Billy" Cecil Unzicker (better known as "Onion"), who lost his battle to lung cancer, and also for my Great Aunt, Joyce Marlene Alderson Voigt, who is currently battling lung cancer. Stay strong Aunt Joyce!
I think it is safe to say that, unfortunately, everybody knows someone who has been affected by Cancer. For this reason, it is important that we continue to raise money for research efforts, so that this disease can eventually be conquered, hopefully sooner than later. Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate, walk with me, or both!
