Our dog, Jeremy Geronimo, is the epitome of a couch potato. Lounging on the deck, sprawled out on "his" leather couch, or using those sad Basset eyes for just one more treat, he's been living the good life with us since we adopted him from NEBHR.

While we've been less than pleased when he's chewed up our daughter's toys, or stolen our sandwiches off the table, he asks for little beyond a comfy place to hang out and food to fill his bowl (which he insists on at 7am and 3:30pm ON THE DOT!)  He's an odd dog. But he's our odd dog... and we think he's pretty happy with us, too. 

Since I became involved in rescue in 2003 when I adopted my first hound, I've given permanent homes to Brutus, Riot, Pokey, and Jeremy. I've fostered Bella, Abby, Fred, Tracker, Uncle George, Buster, Jack, Artie, Abe, Clyde, Buford, Hazel, Daisy, Duke.. and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. (And of course then there'st the adoption of Miss Piggy, the pug, and everyone's favorite bulldog, Tank!)

Rescue is an important part of my life and while it can be stressful and heartbreaking much of the time, there's absolutely nothing better than following up with past adopters and hearing how their adopted dog has become a member of the family. 

Since 2001, NEBHR has helped nearly 1000 dogs find their forever homes, but without the support of people like you, we could never boast such numbers. Every dog that comes into our system is seen by a veterinarian and while some may require only basic vaccinations prior to adoption, many more need more extensive treatments, surgeries and post-op care. 

Woofstock, our annual fundraiser, makes it all happen. Hundreds of Basset lovers from New England and beyond gather for this day of doggie fun, complete with games, contests, a silent auction, raffles and plenty of houndly drool. The event kicks off with a "waddle in the woods" (worry not, it's short!) for which attendees seek pledges on behalf of their hounds in support of NEBHR.
