Can you help us help Ed?
Ed was seized in an animal cruelty case just before Christmas 2010. He was emaciated, dehydrated, had terrible ear infections and bladder stones. He remained a patient of the vet clinic until mid-February 2011 when he was stabilized and able to go to his new foster home. It was also during this time that the courts were trying to determine Ed’s future. Luckily for him, it was decided that he could remain with NEBHR.
Since then, it’s been a CONSTANT battle for Ed but this plucky guy keeps pulling through…. And pulling at the heartstrings of all who meet him.
A summary of Ed’s medical records would far exceed the space allowed on this page but to give you an idea of what he’s been through: surgery for the stones, multiple UTIs with vet visits and Xrays, a total ear ablation of his right ear in April and another in mid-November on the right ear. None of this has been easy for Ed, or his foster home, either. From neurological complications to constant monitoring, a home-cooked diet, lifelong medication, neck and back pain that appears to be arthritis, reoccurring diarrhea and constant yeast infections on his skin due to the number of antibiotics he’s been on. He is of course now totally deaf due to the ear surgeries.
Despite it all, he is a total love bug! According to his foster mom, “He is such a happy little guy that everyone falls in love with him instantly! He admires the resident hound, Oscar, like Oscar is a hero and enjoys camping with the family and playing with his squeaky toys. He empties his toy basket several times a day. We put them back, he takes them out… again and again! His favorite toy is a green chicken that we’ve cleverly named Green Chicken.” J
Ed is lucky to have a foster home that’s been able to keep up with his demanding medical needs. And all of us are thankful for the fantastic veterinary surgeons and office staff who have helped him along the way and giving NEBHR a financial break when possible.
Of course, Ed’s many procedures have come at a great expense to NEBHR. If you are able to help with Ed’s care in any way, we’d be especially thankful. We’re thankful we were able to rescue Ed and for the many people who’ve stood behind him to give him the health – and happiness – he deserves.
