This year, NEBHR welcomed 18 puppies between two litters -- and let me tell you, there's nothing sweeter than a basset hound puppy! But aside from the amount of work (and we thank you, brave foster parents!!) those litters took a huge toll on us financially when you consider the fact that all of our dogs are up-to-date on shots and spayed or neutered before adoption.

We were lucky to find homes for every one of these little guys, but as you know, our work didn't end there. Over 100 dogs have come through NEBHR since January 2010, and it's not slowing down.

On September 11, we'll hold our annual fundraiser, Woofstock, to raise the much-needed funds our organization needs to keep operating year after year. It would be impossible to save these dogs -- and get those puppies into the homes they deserve -- without the help from our supporters.

I've been volunteering with NEBHR since 2003 when I adopted my Brutus and while it's taken up huge amounts of my time and brought tears to my eyes countless times, holding those wiggling puppies helped remind me why I do what I do.
