It's that time of year again -- fundraising for New England Basset Hound Rescue! Our one and only fundraising event, Woofstock, will take place in Sturbridge, Mass., on September 10. The money we raise in advance of Woofstock and what we bring in that day is what keeps us going from year to year. While Woofstock is a fabulously fun day for dogs and their people, if it wasn't for this event, we'd never be able to do the rescue work we do.
This year has been especially tough for us with a record-breaking number of intakes and several extremely costly surgeries and procedures that have taken a huge toll on our bank account. As with any rescue, we are constantly faced with tough decisions about our dogs -- but with your help, we can eliminate having to question our finances when it comes to saving, treating, and rehoming a needy basset.
As you may know, we lost our basset, Ronnie, this fall. And while we're now a bulldog-only household, bassets will forever be a part of this family and I can't imagine not being part of this incredible organization.
Since 2001, NEBHR has helped over 900 homeless, unwanted, and neglected basset hounds. And while we wish all dogs could experience a great life from start to finish, we know there will always be more that need our help. Please consider helping us -- and helping them -- this year.
Thank you!
(PS- The photo here is of Fred, one of our NEBHR alumni, who stayed with us while his family was on vacation this summer. A sprightly senior, you would never know this guy was neglected earlier in life, having sustained a severe injury to his head that was left untreated. Once taken in by NEBHR, Fred was seen by numerous specialists who were amazed by his strength and stamina, and addressed his medical needs. Today he is an absolute ham! He loves his people, enjoys his walks, and has perfected the art of sitting up to beg! We love you, Fred!)
