**UPDATE**
We met our goal!!
Now, let's try to help more of these little angels and raise $300!
Our family will be walking in the 2009 St. Louis Buddy Walk, and we are raising money for our walk to help children with Down Syndrome. There is one child in particular that is close to our hearts who inspired us to participate in this fundraiser. Her name is Kylee Jade Acord, and she is our niece. Kylee came into this world weeks before her due date and stayed in the hospital for a couple of weeks after her birth. At 5 months old, she underwent major reconstructive open heart surgery and championed through it. When the doctors said she would be in the hospital for at least a week, she came home after only 4 days of being in the hospital. She is a fighter, and we know there are many other children out there just like her! That's why Joe and I found it in our hearts to give up a day of our lives for God's little miracles. Hospital bills do begin to pile up, and these children our counting on us to provide for them as they undergo more hospital visits than we could ever imagine in a lifetime. Please help us be a blessing to other children just like Kylee. Thanks and God bless you all!
4/27/08 - Kylee's family got some disappointing news today. Kylee had a doctor's visit for a check-up to see if everything was healing okay after her surgery. They found that her stitches had come loose, and she has a tear in her heart. The surgeons will need to go back in and fix this problem, which means another round of open heart surgery for Kylee. Kylee is now 6 months old and has only gained a total of 6 pounds since she was born. Imagine handing over your 6 month-old child to have open heart surgery for the second time. This family needs your prayers, as do many other families with children in very similar situations.
This is why our family is walking in support of the Down Syndrome Association. They have brought hope financially and comfort to these families who see many days in the hospital with their bundles of joy.
