SUFFOLK HUMANE SOCIETY, INC.

4th Annual Mutt Strut Dog Walk & Festival Suffolk,  Virginia

Punkin's Pals Mutt Strut Page

This year, we will be walking in memory of Spooky.  Spooky passed away on May 15th this year.  She was my mom's sweet little bichon frise (pictured on the far right).   Fortunately, Spooky had a happy life with my family.  She was rescued from the middle of Constance Road on a cold, wet, nasty night several years ago around Halloween.  When a door was opened for her, she jumped right into the car, and she never looked back.  At the time, she was so neglected, it was difficult to even determine what kind of dog she was.  After a bath and a lot of grooming, it became apparent that she was a bichon frise.  With some vet care, food, and love, she blossomed into a beautiful girl.  She truly became a beloved family member.

Sadly, not all animals are able to find their new family on their own.  There are many loving animals that are available for adoption.  Our little Buttercup (pictured on the far left) was adopted from Suffolk Animal Control over three years ago.  She has been a wonderful addition, and we are so glad that we found each other.  We are walking so that animals like Spooky and Buttercup can find their forever homes, as well.

The Mutt Strut is the Suffolk Humane Society's largest fundraiser of the year.  The mission of the Suffolk Humane Society is to end euthanasia as a means to control pet overpopulation in Suffolk. To achieve this goal, Suffolk Humane Society (SHS) is focused on Adoption, Spay/Neuter Programs, and Humane Education. In addition to promoting adoption of the animals in foster care with SHS, SHS also actively works to get the animals adopted out of Suffolk Animal Control.  The spay/neuter program focuses on promoting use of the neuter scooter, a low-cost spay-neuter mobile facilty, and through an active TNR program for feral cats.  These efforts will reduce the number of animals that end up in shelters.  The Humane education component consists of community outreach and education; presentions of programs and activities to schools and groups; and the B.A.R.K.S. (Books and Reading for Kids in Suffolk) program that allows students to practice their reading skills with certified therapy dogs.  All of these efforts combine to further develop a humane society.

Please help us help the Suffolk Humane Society by donating whatever you can.  We realize that this has been a tough year for many, but unfortunately, that has also been felt by the animals in need.  All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

This year, Bryce will be joining Punkin Belle, Buttercup, Bobby, and I in our efforts to raise money and awareness for the Suffolk Humane Society!  Please feel free to forward this to anyone who you think may be interested in helping us.  Also, if you would like to join our team, Punkin's Pals, please do!

Thanks,

Punkin Belle, Buttercup, Bryce, Bobby, and Heather Noell
