Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page! As many of my friends and family know, a while back I was diagnosed with a Desmoid tumor. As a young woman, married, and with a 2 year old son, I was quite devastated. Now I want to help raise funding for research, awareness and support for those with this disease. Organizations like Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation did not exist. So now is my time to give back !
Back when I was diagnosed, I barely had any information about desmoid tumors. Today, I am happy that I am able to help raise money and awareness for this disease through Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation.
My tumor was located in my left lower abdominal area. Part of my pelvis was removed, portion of my abdominal wall was removed and abdominal muscle was removed. I had a gortex mesh inserted to take the place of the abdominal wall. Alot of reconstruction was performed.
As a result, I was not allowed to pick my 2 year old son up, could not lift my left leg up without lifting my leg with my hands. I could not lift anything heavy over 5 lbs. I now live with chronic pain because my entire right side has taken the brunt of overcompensation. It is difficult to exercise because I wind up getting hurt. And I was one of the few "lucky ones"
Desmoids are persistent and stubborn. They love to return and attach themselves to muscle, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and any soft tissue which of course is very close to organs and limbs, even the heart and lungs, for example.
So please, please donate to my firstgiving page so that we can raise money towards research and clinical trials. We do not have many effective treatments. There is no cure.
Having faith in all of you,
Helen
