Rhino Charge on 3rd June 2006, Kenya
What do a team of girls, 4X4 vehicles, moorlands and a rhino have in common?
The Rhino Charge is an event where participants and spectators come together to support the Rhino
Ark. It is a race, not about speed but of skill and bush-craft and is a high adventure 4WD competition representing one of the toughest off-road challenges in the world. The objective is to complete 13 check points in the shortest distance within a 10 hour time limit. It is about determination, commitment, team-building and friendship. On average 40% of entrants don’t complete the course.
Our team, Rhino Rouge, Car 17 was the only all girls team in the 2005 Charge and we came 12th and raised Kshs 1,624,413 ($22,500). Our result represents the highest placed all girl crew ever.
We are competing again on 3rd June 2006. We are doing this because we believe in conserving the unique Aberdare mountain range. It is home to numerous endangered species including rhino, elephant and bongo and is a crucial water shed and catchment area supporting millions of people and industry.
The bottom line is: the conservation value of this effort is enormous.
We look forward to the Charge 2006 challenge – our team and car are ready but to achieve our goals “show us the money!"......
