Daddy Ultra Runs Fundraising
I have been running adventure races now for a number of years and have enjoyed absolutely all of them! Well, maybe I did not enjoy much of them while I was in the middle of the race, but as it always happens, once you cross the finish line, you can't wait long enough to start the next one!
Of all the stage races I have done, the ones I enjoyed the most are those put together by Racing the Planet. Their race series take you to some of the nicest deserts in the world, including the Sahara, Gobi and Atacama. These races are quite challenging, to the point that TIME magazine named it as #2 on its list of Top 10 Endurance Competitions in the world.
For me personally, these races have never been about the difficulty/challenge itself, but most importantly, about the people you meet along the way. Sharing a whole week of your life under extreme conditions and circumstances brings the best out of people and I consider myself very lucky to have been able to meet wonderful friends along the way!
As I successfully completed 3 of the races (Sahara, Gobi, and Atacama), I am now eligible to put a closure to this cycle of races by participating on The Last Desert! The Last Desert (Antarctica) 2012 is the 5th edition of the event and it remains as the only multi-day stage race on the Antarctic continent. It will take place from 16 to 26 November 2012. If I manage to start (and most importantly, FINISH) this race, then I will become a new member of the 4 Deserts Club. This entitles you to nothing more than bragging rights, but it is a cool accomplishment!!
As I embark on this challenging road to Antarctica, I kindly ask you for your support in any and all possible ways! As always, my main objective is to support the Families Exploring Down Syndrome of Brevard, FEDS. FEDS is a volunteer 501(c)3 organization and all of the money raised is used for individuals with Down syndrome in Brevard County. Some examples of the ways we help are with behavior and speech therapies, reading and math tutors as well as evaluations at the Hope Haven Down syndrome Clinic in Jacksonville. The funds are also used to help pay tuition at Space Coast Early Intervention Center, a therapeutic preschool which specializes in helping children achieve the skills necessary to attend regular kindergarten. In addition we help pay for summer camp, Special Olympics events, gymnastics class, horseback riding, and dance class. Many of our children also play Soccer and Baseball with the Space Coast Challenged Athletes Association. People with Down syndrome often have low muscle tone, so the opportunity to participate in physical classes and events is important.
Your donation helps us to meet these needs and we are very grateful for your generosity and support.
