Anyone who has been around autistic children knows that "they set their own pace". They can't be rushed and many times can't be slowed down. Nor should we try. Ethan is our family's "pacesetter", and its a labor of love everyday to keep him and the rest of the world in sync.
Ethan is 8 yrs old, and at age 3 was diagnosed with mild to moderate autism disorder. He has progressed a long way since then. He currently attends class at Broadmoor Elementary with other autistic kids. He likes participating in his 1st grade inclusion classroom and making new friends. Ethan also likes watching TV (Boomerang and movies), jumping on the trampoline, roughhousing with his older brother, swimming with his little sister, and playing with his friends. His favorite restaurant is "anywhere that serves chicken and french fries".
A while back, we began attending support group meetings sponsored by the Autism Society of Acadiana. ASAC is organized and managed by a group of volunteers, most of whom have family ties to someone with autism. ASAC is a tremedous resource for families dealing with a recent autism diagnosis and wondering "now what?". In addition, ASAC promotes community and legistative awarness and advocates on behalf of families like ours.
ASAC is supported almost entirely through charitable contributions and fundraising. Please consider participating in or donating to, the 2012 Walk for Hope & Family Fun Day. Its a fun and rewarding way to show your support for the autistic community and ensure funding for all the good that ASAC does.
We hope to see you at the Walk!
