HIGHLAND SUPPORT PROJECT

Marvin & the Highland Support Project (HSP)

Marvin & the Highland Support Project (HSP)

Marvin Gonzalez has worked with the Highland Support Project (HSP) in Guatemala for almost a decade. Many of our past North American volunteers will recognize him as their constant companion during service trips. As a professional fireman and trained EMT, Marvin makes sure all our volunteers are always safe and sound.

What you may not know is that Marvin also plays a big role in the overall programming of building stoves and planting trees in the Mayan communties HSP serves. He is the staff person that negotiates with all the regional authorities to ensure our service programs run smoothly and successfully. Marvin is also the year-round guardian of the thousands of trees HSP volunteers plant.

Join Marvin & HSP's Circle of Support by giving through Firstgiving today. Plant a tree and build a stove today by supporting Marvin's work in Guatemala through a donation to this cause.

Please consider making a regular monthly donation to ensure that the villages of Guatemala will always have the support they need. It only takes 100 people giving $10 a month to sustain Marvin & HSP's full programming for one year.

Goals of the Highland Support Project's Stove-Building & Tree-Planting Program include:

  1. To serve the indigenous Mayan people in the Highlands of Guatemala through transformative, empowering programming.
  2. To create equitable, meaningful relationships between North Americans and Indigenous Guatemalans through enduring and ongoing exchange.
  3. To build stoves in rural Mayan homes to aleviate health problems and lessen the burdens of Mayan women.
  4. To plant trees to prevent deadly landslides in the Highlands and improve the environment worldwide.
