Update:
Although we have reached our target of $7,000 (!!) we are still gladly acccepting donations. The money will certainly be put to good use by the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. We can't thank you enough for your generous support!

We did it! We survived the triathlon. Photos

Although neither of us has ever done a triathlon (and are still in shock that we signed up for one), it is hard to imagine a more appropriate way to honor our mother’s memory while raising funds for a cause she cared deeply about.
If you knew Kristin, you know how she could fill a room with laughter and warmth. Her cheerful demeanor was due in part probably because she took time out of each day to exercise. No matter how hectic things got, Mama would make sure she got in her swim or walk. An avid swimmer, she’d swim a mile every other day and twice her age in laps on her birthday. When she couldn’t swim, she’d walk for miles around the neighborhood, greeting friends along the way. She was always eager to have a neighbor join her on her walks, and even during her chemo treatments she’d keep up a challenging pace.
No doubt it will be a challenge to complete the triathlon, but it pales in comparison to what our mother and thousands of other women go though as they battle ovarian cancer. During those final laps when our muscles are twitching with fatigue, our thoughts will be with Mama and how she was a fighter until the very end.
One in 67 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer during their lifetime. Currently there is no early detection test so more than 80% of them are diagnosed in later stages, when chances of 5-year survival severely decrease. More research is needed to develop an early detection test and a cure. Please help us raise money in honor of our mother so that more women can live to face the challenges of triathlons rather than cancer.

Many thanks for your support -- No gift is too small, and all gifts are appreciated. Please forward this to anyone who knew our mother or might want to donate.
Sincerely,
Karin & Ingrid
