************

The presence of Arabs has been documented long before Islam.  Arabs have been mentioned in Assyrian and Roman manuscripts.  They were not only nomadic dwellers as some historians insist on generalizing them, but were also city inhabitants who contributed to civilization before and during Christianity.

Arabs are Semites.  In ancient times, they spoke Aramaic, Hebrew and Arabic.  They practice various religions besides Islam.  Moslems constitute the vast majority of Arabs; but there has been a large community of Jews, a larger population of Christians (mainly Orthodox and Catholics) and a small number of Druze (plural of Dirziya, Dirzi).  Until 1950, the largest numbers of Jewish Arabs lived in Egypt, Iraq, Morocco and Yemen.  While the home of Druze has been mainly Syria and Lebanon.

Knowing that the world acknowledges the presence of Christian Arabs whether in history books, through their missionary work (which has reached as far as India) in their activism, contributions or due to their leadership of industrial western-base Arab organizations,  “The Other Arabs” documentary film focuses on non-Moslem, non-Christian Arabs.  It is an unprecedented film project that tackles the history, cultural identity, struggle and contributions of two of the most unknown Arab communities, Jews and Druze.

The plan is to produce this documentary film in a two to three series by the end of 2010.  Interviews with Jewish Arabs from Iraq have been completed.  The director plans to interview members of the Druze community in the USA, UK and Syria.  She can be contacted at Info@INEAS.org and INEAS_1994@yahoo.com  Please email her at both addresses if you want to participate in the project or recommend personalities to be interviewed.

In 2006, we initiated a fundraising drive for this project via email.  Those who made donations are acknowledged below.  For part one of the series, we need to raise a minimum of $5000.  We greatly appreciate your help in making this educational project a reality.
