On Christmas day in 2010 my best friend Melissa Amaya went through a life changing experience due to AVM. She has went through surgeries, MRI’s, radiation, countless pills, not to mention how she has probably spent more time in the hospital then most of us will in our lifetime. She is now going for a Gamma Knife Radiation Surgery on April 11th to hopefully get rid of AVM, which can leave her a vegetable. She has a handsome little son Ayden, and her husband Wilson, who has stood behind her, as her rock through it all. Please help us raise money and awareness. 4/11/12 UPDATE:

The day of the surgery, Melissa was put to sleep to be fitted with a frame that fits specifically to her head. The hospital computers went down and they could not start the procedure right away. The frame has four bolts which are screwed into her head about an inch in. Because the computers were down and the staff could not get the three-dimensional, computerized technology to figure out exactly where to administer the radiation. She stayed this way for over 6 hours! .. Finally the procedure started and the doctors were able to deliver over 200 beams of radiation with scalpel-like precision directly to the tumor. Melissa's surgery went great!!! .. She is doing well, a little sick, but Melissa is a strong woman. We are all looking forward to the AVM walk on May 6th!!
