Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support-- and please forward this to anyone you think might want to donate also!
For those wishing to support with a donation but not online our address is: Victor Brown, 8521 East 12th St. Tulsa Oklahoma, 74112. Checks payable to "DSAT Buddy Walk "
The walk is an awareness event...lots of food, exhibits, activities - check out the site !!! It has experienced miraculous growth the past few years and has something for everyone. Individuals may come and enjoy without registering if they chose ...it is FREE !! One main goal is to show that individuals with Down Syndrome are more alike than different from others without Down Syndrome.
Funds are used for supporting new parents by providing packets to them in the hospital, awareness / education for physicians in the community. Monies also are used for securing speakers for the monthly meetings, building our 'portable library' , conducting family events- Basketball, baseball games, fishing tournaments - and providing scholarships to local workshops and national conventions.
Victor , his dad , granddad & I were the fortunate recepients of a partial scholarship this year and attended the National Down Syndrome Society's national convention / conference in San Antonio Texas. What a Blessing !! We are better equipped with resources available , where & how to access them, practical hands on, tried "ideas", recent research data ....whew ! So much we have not yet begun to process ....Best perhaps was being with thousands who have 'been there, done that " and/or are "here, trying this / that ....all supportive , caring . Lauren in the cast of GLEE was a keynote speaker and we met the married couple starring in a documentary on TV recently .
Victor is now 15 and in the 10th grade at Memorial High School . He happily boards the school bus at 7:45 a.m. returning at 4:30 p.m. Reports are that he enjoys the day with friends , working hard and participating in activities especially gym - Ha !. He continues to participate and earn ribbons and medals in winter and summer Special Olympics games . His events are bowling , basketball skills, softball throw and track. This year swimming might be added ......Victor continues to Acolyte in Church services and attends Church & Sunday School every Sunday . We continue to anticipate the day he will speak and share verbally his thoughts & feelings. In the meantime he continues to communicate VERY well in alternate ways.
As you are fully aware, support comes in many forms and we are sincerely thankful for all that has been given us ......prayers, encouragement, sharing , etc .......We ask that you continue these and although I am not comfortable with fund raising , IF you are moved & able to make monetary support Thank you . It is for the group that has been and continues to BE THERE for us and therefore for Victor. If we can ''pay back and pay forward '' in any way that is our goal !
Blessings !
