Dear Family and Friends,
On Feb 1st, 2005 our world was rocked, that's when Zack was diagnosed with a soft tissue cancer called embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. It's been a over a year now and thanks to the MGH CancerCare Center for children Zack is in remission. The tough battle still continues for children like Zack. This disease brings the strongest of us to our knees, but there have been incredible strides made in finding better treatments and, someday, maybe even a cure for this and other types of cancer.
Last year was a very tough one for, Zack, Sandie, and myself, but we had incredible support from family and friends. I don't know how we would have gotten through it without you. Zack will continue to be evaluated every 3 months to check on his tumor. It has shrunk significantly, and is inactive! No surgery has been performed to remove it. He's a brave little kid who has handled his illness with strength and dignity. He is my hero.
He is back to a somewhat normal life of going to school, playing his guitar and waiting for baseball season to arrive and growing his hair, as he says ("Don't touch the hair").
Zack is not totally out of the woods yet, there is a 1 to 2 % chance that the cancer could possibly come back or another cancer could develop from the radiation he's recieved, This is one of the reasons why ongoing funding for research is so important.
So needless to say I still feel the need to do something, to raise money and awarness to this terrible disease, and the one thing that I can do is ride Granite State Quest. On June 17th I will be riding my bike 100 miles in southern NH with many other riders fighting the good fight for the same cause. I'm asking you (if you can) to sponsor Zack in my ride. You may also know other loved ones that have been stricken with some form of cancer. You can also donate in their name. Please give what you can . I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity. If you feel more comfartable sending a check you can send it to 11 Mineral Street, Reading MA 01867
With Love and Hope,
Jack
