Fundraiser Page for CSNW's Negra and the Cle Elum Seven!
Negra, born in 1973, began her life in the forests of Africa and was captured there as an infant. The majority of her 30+ years have been spent in biomedical research laboratories. She was used in Hepatitis vaccine research and as a “breeder.” The chimpanzees all came to Chimpanzee Sanctuary NW (CSNW) in Cle Elum, WA on June 13, 2008. The sanctuary will be celebrating her birthday on June 13th, the day her new life began. Prior to their arrival at the sanctuary, all of the Cle Elum Seven had spent the last several years living in a windowless basement with no access to the outdoors. Now, Negra and the other 6 chimpanzees, spend their days in the sunshine, enjoying the fresh mountain air.
Negra is a strong individual with a unique personality and has been called the queen of the Cle Elum Seven chimpanzees. Negra enjoys the sheets and blankets that are provided to her at the sanctuary. She has a nightly ritual of sitting up on a ledge and completely covering herself with a blanket. She stays like this for a few minutes, then peeks her face out so that the blanket is wrapped around her body and head like a hooded poncho.
Thanks to donations from individuals like you, she will continue to live the sanctuary life that she so deserves. Please give today for Negra and for her six companions at the sanctuary.
