Since 2000, the Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome (SUDS) walk has promoted acceptance and inclusion of all people with Down syndrome and helps raise funds for Down Syndrome Network to provide support for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.

 

• Down syndrome is the most commonly occurring chromosomal condition. One in every 691 babies is born with Down syndrome.
• Down syndrome occurs when an individual has three, rather than two, copies of the 21st chromosome. This additional genetic material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome.
• There are more than 400,000 people living with Down syndrome in the United States.
• Down syndrome occurs in people of all races and economic levels.

All funds from the Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk are devoted to programs that are offered by DSNetwork to achieve our mission to educate, support, and advocate for those in the community impacted by Down syndrome. These programs include but are not limited to:

• Parents and Schools in Partnership
• Workshops for Early Intervention
• Young Adult Social Group
• Educational Webinars and Workshops on topics pertinent to Down syndrome
• Community Outreach
• New Parent Outreach
