Welcome to this fundraising page where I have a chance to personally raise funds to help find a cure for this horrid disease.
Many of you have followed my battle with this debilitating disease over the last year and a half. It has been a scary rollercoaster ride but thanks to a wonderful team of doctors and healthcare professionals, and support and prayers from amazing family and friends, I am here this year able to walk and fight for everyone afflicted like me.
Scleroderma is a chronic, often progressive autoimmunme disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissue. The disease, which literally means "hard skin", can cause thickening and tightening of the skin as well as serious damage to internal organs. It occurs 3 to 4 times more often in women than men, and affects children. 15% of people with this disease develop an aggressive form of diffuse systemic sclerosis, a very severe & life threatening manifestation. Regardless of the form, it is at best a life changing diagnosis with no known cure and at worst one which will take a life within a few years.
For more info please visit www.scleroderma.org & www.sclero.org to learn more.
There is good quality research happening but it takes substantial amounts of money to fund this research. Scleroderma is not as well known as some of the other autoimmune diseases (e.g. AIDS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lupus), and therefore needs to reach out for that fundraising through direct channels like this.
I am well enough this year to participate in this walk to help raise funds for a cure. Any amount you can donate toward this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated. It only takes a few large donations to reach a goal, but more likely it will be reached with many smaller donations so please know any amount you can add will help. Thank you in advance!
If you can join me in walking and raising funds that way please join the Healing Jane team through this website. It kicks off with registration at 9 a.m. and walking starting 10 a.m. Sunday, September 27, from Ceasar Chavez Park in Sacramento with a BBQ & bounce house gathering immediately following. It's about a 2 hour drive from the Bay Area. The link "Join This Team" is at the top right portion of this page under the fundraising meter.
Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. If you cannot participate by walking, you can donate to the cause. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate, too!
