Yes, I know I am crazy, but I am at it again! I have decided to run the Bolder Options Destination Marathon for the second year in a row. I enjoyed the experience so much last year with the Greece marathon; I actually joined the planning committee for this year's destination marathon in Amsterdam!
Bolder Options’ innovative, strengths-based intervention program is unlike any other youth program in that it empowers youth through an intricate web of support that encompasses the entire family. The Bolder Options’ program combines mentoring, goal setting, athletic activities, learning support, case management, life-skills education, volunteerism, community support, and parental involvement to foster the social and academic success of youth who are at risk of academic failure, dropping out of school, and developing delinquent behaviors. Bolder Options also focuses on developing strong families by providing family centered case management and referrals to additional services throughout the community. As a result of this comprehensive approach, Bolder Options has fostered the social and academic success of over 120 youth each year who are at risk of academic failure, dropping out of school, and developing delinquent behaviors.
Last year's destination marathon raised a whopping $90,000 for Bolder Options and was their biggest fundraising event of the year! That money will put 45 kids through the Bolder Option Program, which is over a third of the number of youth that Bolder fosters per year! We have set this year's goal to the same, with each runner's goal at $3200. I am committed to getting to the finish line in Amsterdam, but I can't get there without your financial help. Some levels of giving that may be of interest to you include:
$4.41 - The estimated benefit per dollar of the cost to put a youth through the Bolder Options program
$12.00 - Percentage of our National Healthcare Budget that goes to the cost of obesity
$26.20 - One dollar for every mile I will run on October 18th, 2009
$34.00 - For the 34th Amsterdam Marathon
$60.00 - Success rate percentage for Bolder Options (other similar organizations to Bolder have a success rate of 45%)
$120.00 - Number of youth Bolder Options successfully fosters each year
$200.00 - Number of hours a mentor volunteers of their time to Bolder Options per year
$330.00 - For the time I hope to complete the Amsterdam Marathon in
$1320.00 – For the number of minutes I will train to run the Amsterdam Marathon
Once again, thank you for your support, no donation is too small. I may not beat any of the Kenyans this year, but either way I believe I am in a winning situation running for Bolder Options.
