Hi Everybody!
What a life-changing year! Time goes by so quickly. We are gearing up again for our annual Scleroderma Walkathon, in hopes of raising as much money as possible for the Scleroderma Foundation. This event is so important in furthering awareness about the disease, supporting patients and families, and funding the research that will ultimately lead to a cure. As for my personal news, I sold my home and moved into a beautiful assisted living complex called the Atria Woodbridge in Irvine. I needed more help with the activities of daily living and an opportunity to meet more people and enjoy more activities. It’s a big change, but much needed and appreciated.
This year we are sponsoring one of our friends who passed away in December after a heroic struggle with the disease. Eva Partida was only 22 years old and was diagnosed at the age of three. She has been an Ambassador for Scleroderma for many years, attending all the galas, walks, conferences, and education days. She was always optimistic and was eager to help others. Many of us will be wearing a stripe of purple in our hair as a show of support.
We realize that finances are a concern for most everyone, so we are asking for your support in any way that best fits with your current situation. Please join us as we lead Team Kelly and Bonnie in our 9th Annual Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma Walkathon.

Details of the walk:
-Date: Sunday, June 5th at La Mirada Regional Park, La Mirada, CA
-Check-In: 8:30am-9:30am - The Walk begins at 10:00am
-Highlights include: Lunch by Baja Fresh, Kidzone with Bounce House, Face-painting, a Live Band, and a Resource Fair for patients and their families.
-Registration: $20 - includes T-shirt and lunch ($5 for kids 6-11, free for kids under 6).
Information about Scleroderma and me:
Scleroderma is a chronic, autoimmune disease similar to multiple sclerosis, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. It affects more than 300,000 people in the United States, and there is no known cause. Unfortunately, many suffer from this disease for years before being diagnosed, and it can take a few more years to find the medical, educational and social support that is desperately needed. The symptoms vary from mild to life-threatening and can be in the form of stiff and deformed hands, gastrointestinal and/ or lung involvement, to extreme fatigue and chronic pain. I have had Scleroderma for six years and I’m now on a medication for Pulmonary Hypertension which seems to be helping. Weight loss has been a consistent problem due to multiple issues, but thanks to intravenous tube feedings at night for about 5 months a year, I can regain all the lost weight and feel more normal. Thank goodness for these supportive measures!
