Race Across America (RAAM)
Situation:
A divide exists between military veterans and the civilian community. With
the fighting force consisting of less than 1/2% of the country's population,
that divide is growing. This fact is damaging to Veterans as they attempt to
reconcile their lives as they exit the military, and face a population that
does not understand their experience. Team RWB through its 3 pillars of
physical fitness, personal connectivity and esprit de corps aims to bridge
that divide.
Mission:
To successfully move 3-teams of cyclist, riding in support of Team RWB,
across the country in a 24/7 relay fashion stating in Oceanside, CA and
ending in Annapolis, MD furthering the sea of goodwill for Team RWB while
embodying its 3 pillars: physical fitness, personal connectivity and spirit
de corps.
Execution:
Team RWB has hand-selected and reviewed 3-RAAM teams consisting of equal
mixes of wounded veterans, veterans and concerned citizens. Those three
teams along with crew of similar composition, will assemble in Oceanside, CA
2-days prior the race start to prepare the finalize the logistics
surrounding the cross-country race culminating a 10-month planning cycle. At
this time the teams will also undergo inspections and briefings by the race
officials and finalize preparations before "giving way together" on the 16th
of June. From that point forward, the teams will have one cyclist executing
"forward" motion on his/her bike 24 hours a day 7 days a week in a relay
fashion along the prescribed race route between Oceanside, CA and Annapolis
MD as fast and as safely as they can maneuver while staying in accordance
with all race rules and regulations.
Service and Support:
In addition to the race rules and guidance set-forth by the Race Across
America Organization (www.raceacrossamerica.org); the Race Across America
Organization will be providing "referee" support and time-tracking to all
teams throughout the race.
Team RWB will be supporting these teams logistically through the rentals of
their motorhomes for crew rest along the route; chase vehicles (minivans)
for on-the-road cyclist support; race kits and crew T-shirts.
The Team RWB RAAM crews will be providing their own sustenance throughout
the race as well as delivering organic support to themselves and their
primary cyclist team to ensure the health, morale and welfare of all team
members throughout the race.
