GIve me the birthday gift of supporting Global Lives!
Hi everyone,
It's my birthday, and I'm ecstatic to be ringing in this next year of living as a proud member of the Global Lives Project, the nonprofit arts-new media organization I work with.
Global Lives takes 24 hours of uninterrupted footage--a virtual day in the life--of people all over the world, from different walks of life, and brings it together into a library of human life experience. We're going to be opening our first major exhibit at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco in February 2010, where viewers will be able to immerse themselves in a day in the life of 10 people from across the globe--synced in time to their time of day!
To produce this exhibition and really take GLP to the next level, I need your help. We need to acquire the video projection and audio equipment that showing 10 lives requires, as well as the construction materials that will make viewing GLP shoots truly immersive. If we can compose a really solid exhibition, I'm confident that larger institutional donors we interact with will take notice and support our work going forward. In effect, your contribution is the bridge for GLP to hit the bigtime.
I got involved with GLP because I think it's just plain awesome. Never before in history has this been done--sure, there's been text and photos, but never an actual running film of a full day in someone's life. To me it represents a powerful opportunity to step out of your world and experience other ways of living in an intimate way. It's also incidentally a really awesome record of how life is lived--stripped of conceptions of nation or culture, without imposed narrative--and GLP shoots preserve ways of life in a manner never before done. A generation from now, people will be able to immerse themselves in these shoots and really come to know how life was lived. If I may be so bold, it is a project for posterity's sake. And you can be a part of making it so.
So make my birthday that much brighter and help me and the Global Lives team show the world our work! (And of course, you should come to the opening night party on Feb 26!) The fundraising goal I've set is ambitious but achievable ($100 for each year of my life); help me blow the top off of it!
Cheers,
Jason
