March is American Red Cross Month and we have once again agreed to be heroes for the Midland Empire Chapter of the Red Cross. When we were first approached about doing this for the second year in a row, we thought long and hard. We’re just like all of you, living on a tighter budget and trying to do a better job saving. We weren’t sure how we felt about asking all of our family and friends for money … again. But then we thought about all of the great work that the Red Cross does. And we knew that if everyone decided to save their money this year, instead of giving just a little bit of it to the Red Cross, there would be a lot of people who wouldn’t get the help they need. So we decided to do our part to help and now we’re asking you to do the same. Our personal goal is to raise $2,000 this month on their behalf. We’re calling on you to be part of our team by making a donation to support the cause.
As spring quickly approaches, many of us are thinking about baseball, landscaping and summer vacations. The folks at the Red Cross are preparing for natural disasters. They are stocking the national supply warehouse, located right here in St. Joe, that helps support chapters across the nation. They are training disaster response personnel and getting their emergency response vehicles ready to go. Many volunteers and staff members are wearing pagers 24 hours a day to be ready to assist with a house fire or to help a family reach their loved one deployed by the military in a war zone, during a time of personal crisis. They are teaching young people valuable babysitting and lifeguarding skills. And they’re teaching many others how to save lives every week in CPR, first aid and AED classes.
You can feel good about donating to the Red Cross. They are efficient with their budget and are routinely ranked highly by charity monitoring organizations. Their CEO doesn’t make millions of dollars annually and their staff isn’t retreating at swanky resorts. Please consider making a tax deductible donation today.
