UPDATE (march 2012):
We are back from our trip, which was very successful. We dug deep holes for water tanks that will collect rain water for the showers that will be installed in the new building.
Your donations allowed to finance the second phase of the Siuna Hospital project that we have worked on last week, and will also contribute to the third phase, with the digging of a profound well and solar powered pump that will supply water to a water tower. This third part is not completely financed and any additional donation will be much appreciated!
This February, together with my wife Anne and my daughter Clemence, we are joining a group of 21 volunteers who will be traveling with Bridges To Community to Siuna, a community located in one of the poorest regions of Nicaragua. We will be working with members of the community on a variety of development projects and our focus will be to improve facilities at the local hospital, which is the only medical facility serving the 60,000 people of the surrounding areas.
The 60 bed facility operates most days without running water. At present, garden hoses are used to deliver the most basic of sanitary needs!
This fundraising is meant to support the construction of a shower block that will ensure patients can bathe in safety and dignity and we hope you will join us in making this happen. Whilst our volunteers will be working hard at the hospital building the showers, your contribution can help us reach our goal of raising at least half of the $8000 the shower block will cost, and also to support other projects for the Siuna community.
By making a donation to this worthwhile cause, together we can transform the level of healthcare offered by Siuna Hospital and dramatically improve the lives of the patients treated there.
Thank you!
