Team Running Strong 2011 in the Marine Corps Marathon
On October 30th 2011, I will be participating in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC as part of Team Run Strong. Our goal is to raise money to fight poverty and need in Indian country.
Team Run Strong for American Indian Youth, a National non-profit that has been working to help American Indian families meet their basic needs for over 20 years. We need your help. American Indians suffer food insecurity and hunger at twice the rate of the general population. They are amount the most underserved by the health professions and suicide is the second leading cause of death for American Indian youth ages 10-24. Many reservation communities still lack basic amenities such as running water, proper housing, and working utilities.
Running Strong and their national spokesperson Billy Mills (Oglala Lakota), a Gold Medal Olympian, work to alleviate problems through programs that drill water wells for families, support youth initiatives, create community organic gardens, and more.
This is why I'm asking all of my friends and family to sponsor me in my efforts to run 26.2 miles in support of Running Strong's important programs. Your support will make a real difference to children in American Indian communities across the US.
Please help me run for the future of Indian Country!
Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated.
The knowledge that you share my commitment to this important cause will help motivate me and I will keep you in mind when I cross the finish line in October.
