Jeff Fine's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
I am running the 2010 Boston Marathon on behalf of Team Eye and Ear, which supports cutting edge research, offering hope to those suffering from hearing and vision problems and head-related cancers. Every dollar you donate will directly benefit those in need (and is tax deductable to the extent permitted by law).I am grateful for donations of any amount - suggested amounts would be $1 per mile ($26.20), $2 per mile ($52.40) or $4 per mile ($104.80)
Running the Boston Marathon promises to be amazing experience. Chicago in 2009 was my first marathon and the experience was simply surreal. As you may know, I'm relatively new to running. I started running in late December 2008 - my first race ever was a 5K on New Year's Day 2009. A few months later...well, I had registered for the marathon in what was the start of an amazing adventure. Less than 10 months after my first run (it was 2 miles on the treadmill), I ran 26.2 (and at about the same pace as those first 2!). Everyone says the first marathon is special - and it truly was. I also knew it wouldn't be my last.
And, as you may know, I grew up in Boston - near the famed Heartbreak Hill, the other Newton Hills and Beacon Street - about half a mile from mile 22 on the route. We'd have the day off from school and would go down and watch the race (or sometimes go to the Red Sox game in the morning and then go watch). With all its history and charm, the Boston marathon is a special race. But for me, its also my hometown marathon and that makes it all the more special.
In January of this year, I was fortunate enough to hear about an opening on the Mass Eye and Ear Marathon Team which would allow me to support a worthy cause while running the Boston Marathon. Part of what made Chicago so special was running it for charity and knowing what I was doing was helping those in need.
I'm greatful for the support of my friends, coworkers, and running partners - I've met so many great people along the way. Running 11 milers in negative windchill is much more fun when you have company ;) I'm especially greatful for the support and wisdom of my two trainers - PJ who trained me for Chicago and Jenni who is training me for Boston. They've taught me I can do anything I set my mind too and given me the tools to succeed.
