NEW ENGLAND THOROUGHBRED RETIREMENT CENTER

In honor of the horses we all love!

In honor of the horses we all love!

When I was 15, my favorite thing to do on a cold winter morning was to go into my Connemara pony Clodagh's stall and nuzzle into her fuzzy winter coat and take a deep breath. The warmth and comfort I felt was something I'll never forget. It made me love horses forever.

So, when I heard that thoroughbred ex-racehorses in America were being sold on to slaughter or left to languish in horrible conditions --- my heart broke. Some of these horses were the top echelon of equine athlete; I just couldn't understand how they could be treated this way -- or how any horse could.

Thankfully, there are groups that work tirelessly to provide these wonderful horses with a safe and caring home, where they can live out their lives in peace.

One such group is the dedicated team at the New England Thoroughbred Retirement Center (NETRC), headed by Executive Director David Sears. This national non-profit organization takes in and cares for dozens of wonderful horses. They provide them with medical care, and give them plenty of time to rest, play in the fields, and get back to just being a horse. Then they gently begin retraining them to go on to become successful show horses, pleasure horses, or just companions -- and to adopt them out to loving homes.

But, as all horse owners know, caring for these amazing creatures costs quite a bit. Without our help, the team can't afford to do this great work.

So, please help them care for Scampy, Jet, Tess, and all the other horses at the farm -- please make a donation here today.

Make a donation in honor of your horse, post their name in the comment box below, and tell us why he is so special!

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

Best,

Jennifer
