Hope you’re all sitting down for this one! On May 6th I ran in the San Francisco Diva Half Marathon. On February 9th I could barely make it 1 1/2 miles and now...13.1 miles.
It seemed like a lot, a daunting challenge. I thought of a million excuses why I couldn't do it. However, when I put my mind to it, I did it. I wasn't the fastest, but I finished (and before my goal of 3 hours). The saying ‘Only You Can Stop You’ is true. I might have my obstacles, but I shouldn’t let them dictate what I can do.
I not only did this for myself, but have decided to use it as an opportunity to raise money for the diabetic youth foundation. As most of you know Taylor and I are diabetic. Taylor was diagnosed when she was 2 ½ and doesn’t know any other way. We are raising her to not see herself as ‘different’ or a ‘victim’. But that this is just one part of her, it doesn’t define her or stop her from being / doing what she wants to. I believe me taking on this challenge is a great opportunity to put words into action. I have chosen the DYF because of the amazing camp opportunities they have for kiddos in California. It is tough letting your kiddo have freedom they need to grow; even tougher when they are diabetic. This year we are sending Taylor to a week-long camp in August. It is a fantastic camp which will not only allow her to have a little freedom, but finally meet other kiddos who are diabetic. So very excited for her.

The Diabetic Youth Foundation (DYF) has made a huge difference in my life and the lives of thousands of children, teens and families affected by diabetes. During their programs participants receive the latest information on proper diabetes management. We also receive updates on diabetes technology and advances in research.
Most importantly, we meet others affected by diabetes and who share our same life experiences. DYF's endless encouragement, life saving diabetes education and loving care has inspired me to turn the challenges of living with diabetes into opportunities of a lifetime! Please join me in supporting this wonderful organization by making a donation today.
