Thank you for visitng my fundraising page!!!
As a kid, I struggled with low self esteem. Throughout elementary school I was constantly bullied for being fat and ugly. By 7th grade, I developed an eating disorder. In 8th grade, I was officialy diagnosed with bulimia, and went into treatment at the age of 13. Since then, I entered treatment another 5 times. I am senior in high school now, and have finally decided to put more effort into recovery.
I could go on and on about how my eating disorder has affected my life, however I won't. To me, recovery isn't looking back on the negatives, it's looking forward at the positives. Recovery is possible, and that's a message I want to spread. I've come so far since I first entered treatment, my accomplishments are endless. Although I stil struggle day to day, I want my story of progression towards recovery to be an inspiration to help both men and women of all ages seek out treatment, provide hope, and to find comfort in the fact that they are not alone.
Here are some statistics taken off the NEDA website:
-10 million females and 1 million males struggle with anorexia or bulimia
-Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness
-81% of 10 year olds are afraid of being fat
-42% of 1st-3rd grade girls want to be thinner
What NEDA does is provides support and hope for indiviuals and families that are affected by eating disorders, along with helping to raise awareness of this issue. They help to improve treatment quality and fund research.
Please donate whatever you can, every little bit helps!
