The Katie Southard Challenge
Dear friends,
It’s that time again! I enjoyed fundraising for Comfort Zone Camp (CZC) so much last year that I have decided to do it again! I was happily overwhelmed by the success of last year’s fundraiser, raising almost 3,000 dollars! I would like to thank you once more if you donated as a friend, family member, coworker, or a parent at the Jewish Community Center. We were able to send SIX children to Comfort Zone Camp!
This time I will be competing with two friends from Northern Virginia, Sara Pappa and Cindy Southard. The Katie Southard Challenge is a Grief Relief Team event that will honor the memory of Katie Southard through participation in events in Alexandria, VA and Austin, TX while raising awareness and funds to send grieving children to a life-transforming weekend at Comfort Zone Camp.
Katie Southard was the big sister to Cindy Southard – my friend and race tram member. She was part of the class of 2006 at William & Mary – majoring in sociology, and planning to go into social work. She had been working on a campus-wide fundraiser to benefit abused women in the community, but her life was sadly cut short when she was killed in a car accident in the summer of 2004. This year we will be raising money for CZC in honor of Katie and her commitment to creating a better community.
Comfort Zone Camp is a nonprofit 501(c)3 bereavement camp that transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. The free camps include confidence-building programs and age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation that grief often brings. Comfort Zone Camps are offered to children ages 7-17, and are held year-round across the Country. A weekend with CZC is FREE of cost to all campers thanks to generous donations of individuals and corporations across the country.
Your support and participation are valued greatly by our team and the Comfort Zone family. Please donate in honor of Katie, a loved one, or the CZC campers. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Jenny
