Hello! My name is Jennifer Swisher and I will be a senior at Eastlake High School this upcoming year. To graduate from high school, it is required to complete a senior project. A senior project has to teach you something new and must take up 60+ hours of your time. I had a general idea that I wanted to help someone or do community service of some kind for my project.

I was approached with the idea of fundraising for the Children International program. I was told the story about Paola in Mexico, and the terrible poverty of her living situation, and I instantly became interested!

This fundraiser is to help Paola become educated despite many difficulties. Her mother is illiterate, but hopes that her children can get the schooling she never had. 6-year-old Paola should be starting 1st grade this year, but she is not allowed to attend school in Mexico because she has no birth certificate. Work is being done to fix this problem, but there is a lot of red tape. Also, the family has very little money to support Paola and her two sisters' education.

The money collected through this fundraiser will purchase:

6 months of tutoring, so Paola will not fall behind while not enrolled in school
A plastic table and four chairs so the girls will have a comfortable place to do homework
A set of waterproof plastic bins for storing books, etc.
Uniform and school supplies for the upcoming school year (begins in January)

I am also fundraising in my neighborhood and earning money by babysitting. I will use this money to purchase books, workbooks, and other school supplies that will encourage Paola to learn. I will take these things to her when I visit Paola’s home in Guadalajara this coming February.
