Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I am raising money to run for this amazing cause, sending kids to Comfort Zone Camp as they grieve the loss of a parent.
Let me tell you about a family that is close to my heart that can benefit from a camp like this. Paul and Judy Vandegriff and their three kids have been our neighbors for 10 years now. I'll never forget the day (in 2006) when their 6 year old daughter Olivia sat on the swing in my backyard and told me very matter-of-factly that her Mom had cancer. I had to ask her to repeat herself, because it didn't seem real. Over the course of 4 years we saw the agony and strength of Judy's battle against a cancer that just would not stop coming back. If memory serves me, at one point I think she even got the all clear. It was a roller coaster of emotion that their family had to go through. Olivia, their youngest, has always been like a 4th child in my house and she (very much to their credit) always seemed bubbly and full of life throughout all of it. Judy was so strong, always, always smiling. They all held onto hope until the very end, when in March of 2010 she passed away, after a very brave fight. The kids and Paul had the gift of being with her when she passed away, all got to say goodbye, and they knew without a doubt how very much she loved them, and she knew how very loved she was. At one point, towards the end, she told Paul that she felt bad because she had it easy...she got to die, and he had to stay and live and raise the kids alone, and cope with the grief. It's been two years now, and I can say without a doubt that Paul has been an inspiration of how to carry on through the darkest days that life could hand you. And this is where Comfort Zone Camp also can help!
