We are walking in honor of Jen's dad, Gene. He was diagnosed with melanoma in October 2004. After more than 4 years with no recurrance, what was thought to be a fatty cyst appeared on his back. When this was removed it was discovered to be melanoma. In the year following, the melanoma has spread to lymph nodes and also to his lung, putting it now at Stage IV. After participating in 1 clinical trial, then another, neither successful for him, Dad was in screening for another trial when they discovered bone metastases. A new treatment, ipilimumab, had just received FDA approval, and he was able to go on the treatment. It worked! He is now undergoing a second round of treatment, and continues to do well with it.

Thanks to continued research, we continue to get closer to finding life-saving treatments for melanoma. Each step we walk will be another step towards a healthy future for my Dad and all melanoma patients.
