Once in a while, a rare opportunity arises that has the potential to benefit not just a few people, but a whole community.  One such opportunity is now upon us – the 2010 Western States Police & Fire Games.  It is the Olympics for Police and Fire personnel and a weeklong gathering from July 23 - 31, where more than 5,000 athletes will bring 10,000 more of their closest friends to watch them compete in 57 sporting events throughout the area. The Western States Police & Fire Games ranks as one of the largest multi-sport athletic events in the world.

The police and fire departments of Reno, Sparks and Washoe County have been hard at work handling volunteer efforts at the same time that a steering committee of community leaders is banding together to help organize the event.  We are proud to play a part in supporting our local police and fire personnel in their efforts to stage this event that means more than $10 million to our local community.

Each of the past 42 years, the games select a host city and selected the Reno-Sparks-Tahoe area for the first time in 2005.  With local support, the area quickly became one of the event’s most successful destinations. The Western States Police and Fire Games are ecstatic to announce that it will return to this area again in 2010.

To properly launch these Games and ensure their return for years to come, we need your financial support.  Due to current economic constraints, these games need your help more than ever. The help of individuals, corporations and businesses like yours, will greatly enhance our chances of success. 

The cost of putting on such an event this year is challenging.  But it’s an investment with immense payback.  These Games are also worthy of our efforts in that they fit seamlessly with our community’s outdoor-oriented marketing efforts.  It’s a great chance to showcase Reno, Sparks and Lake Tahoe as “America’s Adventure Place”.
