28th Annual Pet Walkathon
My family and I have fostered over 35 cats and dogs in the last 6 years. Some of them had medical issues (Jackson, Levi), some had behavioral issues (Opie, Chi Chi) and some were just too young to be placed up for adoption (Bailey, Grace).
Naughty Maude, pictured here, was one of those who came to us because she had a kitty cold and needed some time to get better. She loved all the pets she encountered so we decided to keep her.
A couple fosters later came Grace, a one day old puppy that had no mom or siblings. The first night Maude cleaned her, snuggled with her and chewed on her tail (hence the name Naughty Maude). As Grace grew, Maude would play with Grace and wear her out for us. (I thought Grace would end up with a play style that was more like a cat but as it goes Maude learned how to play like a dog.) Grace, now Waggy, is in a wonderful home of her own and is doing great.
People wonder how we can give up all these wonderful pets but the answer is easy: I get to see them get wonderful loving homes.
Do we miss them? Sure, but there is always another animal waiting in the wings for us to foster and most families will keep in touch with us so it makes it easier.
