Did you know?
- Melanoma is the deadliest kind of skin cancer.
- The incidence of melanoma is rising faster than any other cancer.
- Melanoma is the second most common cause of cancer in people aged 25-29.
How can you help?
You can help raise awareness by joining ME in supporting the Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE)!
On April 19th, 2010, I will be running the 114th Boston Marathon in support of MFNE and the admirable work that they do. I'll be running for the "Running For Cover" team, and I look to you to support me in any way that you are able. Here are some ways that will help us get there together:
- Your presence at the Fundraising & Recognition Party (date in Jan/Feb TBA)
- Sharing your stories, struggles or successes with a skin cancer experience
- Any financial donation you are able to give
The fundraising donation can be per mile (i.e. "I'm going to pledge $2 per every mile Jess runs = $52), or you may pledge a lump sum (i.e. I'm going to pledge $25 in memory of _________.")
Here's what I can do for you: I have set up a link on my blog where you can follow me through this entire journey here. I will be posting updates on my training, fundraising goals, others' experiences with skin cancer, and more. Also, I will be pledging any and all money I make from my blog from January to April. So visit A Fete For Food early and often!
What is the MFNE again?
This worthy non-profit organization works primarily to educate people about how to prevent melanoma and skin cancer. They also provide resources on early detection of skin cancer for both children and adults. When able, the foundation supports population-based research, but focuses on educating people about prevention and early detection.
Finally...
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me in any and every way you can!
Please forward any questions or comments you have to: jessica.maillet@comcast.net.
If you are interested in contributing to this fundraising goal but cannot participate online, you may send checks directly to me, and should be made out to the Melanoma Foundation of New England, with my name in the memo line. Please email me and I will provide you with my mailing address.
Happy Running!
