Mark your calendars, its Buddy Walk time!!

October 9, 2011 will be our 8th year to host the Buddy Walk! It is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we would love for you to help us make this year a success.

First let me start off by telling you a little bit about what I have been up to. I turned 6 years old this year and have lost my first 2 teeth. I will be attending the first grade this fall. I have had a great summer visiting Galveston, Moody Gardens, Kemah, and The Houston Zoo. I have also participated in a math and reading class and Vacation Bible School. I also attended my first special needs prom. This summer has been great! I look forward to seeing you all at the Buddy Walk.

The Buddy Walk is our only annual fundraiser each year. And the money we raise is well-spent. We send kids like me to weekend camps, Handwriting Without Tears classes, Sign Language class, Summer Reading/Math program, conferences and more. We ensure that all new parents of children with Down syndrome in our community have the information and support they need, and we also send some of our members to state and national workshops, so they can pass on the latest research and advocacy news to our members.

Together we go swimming, camping and go to educational classes. These activities give kids like me a chance to meet new friends, and they give our parents a chance to swap stories, laugh and learn from each other.
