This fall I will be traveling to Ghana for 3 months to volunteer in a small, newly established medical clinic. While in Ghana, I will be staying with a host family. I need help to raise money to make this opportunity possible. I will be donating my time and nursing skills to those who are less fortunate than us. I am going to help them to receive the quality medical care that we are so fortunate to have easy access to. This is going to be an incredible experience helping those in need, while learning a great amount about the differences in the medical system and culture in Ghana.

About me

I graduated from Regis College in May with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree , and recently received my license to practice as a registered nurse. I have a lot of experience working with children of all ages. I worked as a nanny to 4 school aged children throughout college, and have been babysitting for many years. I hope to combine my love and ability to work with children, and my passion for nursing and work in a pediatric or maternity unit upon my return from Africa.

Placement

The Foresight Medical Center is located in Ho, it is a medium sized city about 2 hours (150 km) away from Accra. Foresight is a newly established 12 bed medical clinic with the aim of providing quality and affordable medical care for the people of Ho and its surrounding towns and villages.

The aim of the project is to provide accessible and inclusive health service and eliminate disparities in access to basic medical and health services. Also to promote accessible, quality and equitable services to all Ghanaians - particularly those in rural areas.

Volunteering Responsibilities

Working as a volunteer I will have the responsibilities of a nurse. Including tasks such as taking patients’ vitals which include weight, temperature and blood pressure, dressing wounds, giving injections and other tasks that the staff will determine.
