Thank you for visiting our Personal Fundraising Page for Special Olympics Virginia’s 2012 Polar Plunge® Winter Festival. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. And you don’t even have to get your feet wet (or cold!).
Special Olympics Virginia uses sports as a catalyst to change society’s perceptions and treatment of people with intellectual disabilities. This is the fourth year that we will take The Plunge, but of course it is for a great cause. Your donation will benefit the Young Athletes program for Area 11 which is for children in Caroline, Fredericksburg, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford. YA is for the kids ages 2 to 7 who are too young for the competitive programs. It helps them develop the individual and team skills necessary for when they are older. It is very fun and rewarding.
The reason why we are involved is our grandson Luis. Luis was born with Down Syndrome. At first, the diagnosis was scary; learning about all the complications and life threatening challenges he would face was difficult. However, he is the most amazing, loving child you could ever imagine. He is our light and life. You can't help but to love Lui. He teaches us something about how WE should be every day. Lui is 7 years old and is in Second Grade at Berkley Elementary School. He loves all his friends at Young Athletes. It has helped him develop many skills that you and I take for granted.
Your donation will also assist Special Olympics Virginia in reaching our total fundraising goal. That's one great reason for you to donate and for us to jump in the Atlantic Ocean in the height of winter! If you would rather, you can mail a check made out to "Special Olympics Virginia" to us at:
