Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
This is my second year doing the polar plunge, and I know this time around it will be even more fun! This year my father and my sister will be plunging with me! I have been involved with Special Olympics for some time now, and my father Tom has been involved with Special Olympics Track and Field since he was thirteen ( I won't tell you how long ago that was). My sister Kayla is an athlete, and she is the one who inspired me to donate my time. About 6 years ago, Kayla was on a unified soccer team in Massachusetts, and I became a unified player. That was the beginning of our Special Olympics involvement. We kept up with soccer and tried a little softball. Then, 4 years ago, we moved to Santa Clarita, which has a wonderful program. At first, I stuck with Kayla, I coached track and field, softball, and helped out with floor hockey. Then, we stuck our feet into ice skating and volleyball. But now, we both are involved with a variety of sports. I just started my second season as Head Coach for track, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming softball, soccer, and floor hockey season.
I kept getting involved because I loved to see a smile on Kayla's face. Special Olympics is something we can do together. And now, its about seeing smiles on every athletes face. A few hours of my week is definitely worth being able to see the athletes, my friends, having fun. The best thing volunteers can provide is time and attention. Special Olympics is not only about an opportunity for sports training, but about creating a family, and I sure do love all of the Santa Clarita Special Olympics family!
So, if you can't donate your time, this is a great opportunity to help out! Every dollar counts!
