This quote helped me focus on why I need your help now. I am embarking on an exciting, life changing adventure this summer, a 1500 mile bike ride from Minneapolis, Minnesota to one of my favorite places, Point Pleasant, New Jersey. I will be biking with a group of young people to raise funds and awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (Duchenne). Duchenne is a devastating, progressive neuromuscular disorder which robs those diagnosed of their mobility, independence, and eventually their life.

I will be riding for my 12 year old cousin Kyle who has Duchenne. I want to help him in any way that I can and I am asking now for your help in sponsoring me along my journey. The funds will be used for research on Duchenne and will hopefully one day find a cure. I want Kyle to live the full life he used to, to run and play with his friends again.

Duchenne is the most common lethal genetic disorder diagnosed during childhood today. It is a progressive neuromuscular disorder that causes loss of muscle function. Duchenne affects approximately 1 in every 3,500 boys, or 20,000 babies born each year worldwide. Duchenne can occur in any pregnancy and a random genetic mutation is the cause of Duchenne in nearly 35% of families affected. Unfortunately, there's no known cure or way to stop Duchenne.

The Jett Foundation for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy was founded in 2001 by Stephen and Christine McSherry, when their son, Jett McSherry, then 5 years old, was diagnosed with Duchenne. The mission of the Jett Foundation is to improve the treatment, quality of life and long term outlook for all individuals affected by Duchenne through research advocacy, education, and compassion.
