Dear Wonderful Folks,
It's that time of year again when I reach out to you, my friends, family, and former colleagues (and some of you a combination), to ask you to learn a little more about Citizen Schools and perhaps invest in the work in which I believe so whole-heartedly. Rather than write you a story this year, I tried something new - I interviewed one of our great eighth grade students, Robert F., about his experience with our program. I invite you to click on it - just to the right of this box - to see my amateur attempt at interviewing and Robert's all-pro performance as interviewee.
I know Robert, despite his struggles in school, is going to go places - and I know Citizen Schools will help him get there. At Citizen Schools, we work with public school districts to expand the learning day for middle school students by three hours, filling that time with our unique brand of targeted academic support, college to career connection curricula, and hands-on, semester-long projects with community professionals to help unlock future possibilities.
You'll notice that this year I have not made a lead gift to my page...yet. I am honored to have been asked to present a keynote speech in March and will be donating my honorarium to this campaign. The amount will be between $600 and $1000, so I'm asking you all to help me match my gift and reach my campaign goal of $2000.
With your help, I can make it happen and bring our program to even more children in NC.
With love and gratitude,
