Myself and 10 friends are running as "Team SPF 303" in the Boulder Backroads half-marathon  this weekend.  We are running with our friend Lon Symensma to raise money for the Melanoma Research Foundation through their Miles for Melanoma program.

Earlier this year, Lon found an odd mark on his leg that turned out to be malignant melanoma.  Luckily, he found his cancer quickly, has endured two surgeries, and in Lance Armstrong's words, is "Livingstrong." 

Lon is an inspiration to many and gave the commencement speach at the Culinary Institute of America two weeks back.  The Culinary Institute is where he and Alicia became close friends.  I am honored to be running with Lon this weekend and to help raise money for a the Melanoma Research Foundation that supports research, education, and families fighting this disease.

Cancer has become very common, and, most likely, you also know somebody battling this disease.  In fact, just last month another friend of ours is fighting a very rare form of cancer that has returned as 20 tumors in his brain.  Thanks to many of you, we produced a charity ride and raised more than $6,000 for he and his family.

If you have the means and inclination, please consider making a small donation to the foundation.  Our team has raised just over $10,000 as of yesterday, Tuesday, Sept. 16th. 

We are running early this Sunday morning and will be sure to post pictures of our team on Facebook after the race.
