As many of you know, for years I have been interested in figuring out a way to tie my love of running with a worthy humanitarian effort. A few months ago I came across an article in Runner's World magazine that caught my attention. This was an article about High Cloud, an organization that dedicates 97% of its donations directly toward aid for those children and families living in extreme poverty.

I knew I had found the perfect cause when I then read that this organization was started by two ambitious and amazing William & Mary grads, Adriana and Matt.

I now serve as an International Sports Coordinator for High Cloud, and at some point in the future I look forward to going on one of the humanitarian missions and eventually I'd love to take our boys on one of these missions so that we can all see first-hand how people live on so little, and learn more about how we can help those who have almost nothing.

At High Cloud, our mission is to help alleviate world poverty for the vulnerable among us – children, orphans, families and mothers who are victims of violence or natural disasters occurring throughout the world. We currently have humanitarian operations in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. We also are expanding our missions this year to Tunisia, India and Macedonia.

High Cloud provides humanitarian assistance and support to orphanages, foundations and rural schools through educational programs, sports and additional extracurricular activities. High Cloud also provides the basic elements of life such as clothing, food, school supplies as well as financial support.

In addition to physical human needs, we are also dedicated to providing displaced children and families with a sense of belonging, self-esteem, empowerment and opportunity. 

I am now working at pushing myself that extra mile for a purpose--this year I am hoping to run the Portland Marathon (in October) while representing High Cloud. I realize times are tough for a lot of people right now, but if you are able, please consider helping me to help others as I set a goal of raising $1000 for this organization by my race in October.
