Paws for Life ... a walk for Samoyeds and for those living with breast cancer.

While I will be walking, Christopher our Samoyed and Suki a Samoyed mix will not be joining me.  Christopher, who spent his first 5 years in a puppy mill siring samoyeds before being rescued is not able to handle the excitment of that many people.  Suki cannot join me as she cannot be around puppies due to her lymphoma which she is receiving chemo for each week.  Your support of this walk will not only benefit dogs like Christopher who are in terrible situations but also the Good Shepherd Hospital's Breast Cancer support group.  You can read more below.

UPDATE ON SUKI, October 3:  She has completed 12 of the 16 chemo treatments and is doing fantastic.   Her platelets continue to be low in part due to chemo.  When the last chemo of the series is done she will go to oral chemo (not as harsh) and once a month chemo (again not the harshest) which she will stay on until she comes out of remission and then it will be time to say goodbye.

Thank you for the support and for your prayers.

Northern IL Samoyed Assistance, Inc and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital's breast cancer support group will present Paws...For Life dog walk and K9 Festival on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Join us at 450 W. Hwy 22 in Barrington, IL for a fun filled day for the whole family.

Proceeds will benefit the AGSH's breast cancer support group and NISA's homeless Samoyeds.

At some point in our lives, surely we've all been directly or indirectly affected by friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers who were diagnosed with some type of cancer.  The mere words can send shivers up your back. Imagine how it must feel to the individual who is facing treatment for this heinious disease! Having a strong knowledgeable support group is vital to anyone fighting cancer. Family and friends can provide both physical and emotional support, however the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital breast cancer support group can provide knowledge and experience. They understand the medical terms, they understand the treatments, they understand the side affects and they know how to help individuals make difficult decisions.

As a Not-For-Profit Samoyed rescue organization Northern IL Samoyed Assistance, Inc. is totally funded by contributions and fundraisers. Rescuing, Repairing, and Rehoming abandoned and unwanted Samoyeds can be very costly. Just the bare bones basic medical care of providing spay and neuter surgery, rabies, DHA2PP, & Bordatella for boarding purposes, Micro-chipping, a full blood chemistry, and physical examination can run upwards of $300-400 for each Samoyed. Add to this internal or external parasite treatment, antibiotics for a large variety of possible infections, x-rays, ultrasounds and some times major surgeries to repair years of neglect and the cost can, and often does, exceed thousands of dollars.

Paws...For Life funds will benefit both people and animals to provide hope and second chances.

Pledges of any amount are deeply appreciated, please help us to help them today!

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
