I was diagnosed with Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes at 8 years old. My famiy knew nothing about juvenile diabetes, but my mom decided from day one that I would not spend my life in the hospital due to this disease. She researched and asked questions and taught me how to diligently take care of myself. Without my mom being as determined as she was and the good Lord above watching over me, I may not be as healthy as I am today. 

Twenty years ago, there was not a lot of information that was easily accessible to people with diabetes. This fundraiser is to raise funds for more programming and research to support people with diabetes. It is also for raising awareness.  Diabetes is a disease, but it is typically one that you can work hard to control and be able to live as normal as possible. I am now 30 years old. I've been living with diabetes for 22 years. I have a wonderful husband and family who take on diabetes with me and give me so much support.  I also have a 16 month old, healthy baby boy and currently have no complications from my diabetes.
