Team Alpha-1 Escape to the Cape Bike Trek 2011
This is the 16th year I have participated in this trek. The best I have done in a single year is 80 miles of the 160 mile trek and that was a few years ago. My goal is 50 miles this year. I will use any excuse to stop pedaling like rain, wind, flat tire etc. Oh yeah, my main excuse is that I have to ride with a container of oxygen strapped to my bike and a cannula shoved up my nose.
Why do I do it?
One reason is because it is fun!
The main reason that I do it is for my grand kids. Three of the five are in the accompanying picture.
I have Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. This condition predisposes one to liver and lung disease. I have lung disease; specifically COPD (emphysema).
Should any of my grand children inherit this genetic condition I want to say I worked toward finding the cure.
Your contributions can only help! For all those that supported our efforts last year, a much belated thank you. For those who didn’t, here’s another chance. No amount is too small or too large. All proceeds will go to the Alpha-1 Foundation for funding research to find a cure.
Pictured in Ft. Lee Historic Park (GWB background) are:

Not pictured is our only granddaughter, Star, and Thomas who is 18 months old. I really need a new picture
